About Reinier

Hi, I’m Reinier de Wit and I live in the beautiful city of Kampen with my wife and two kids. I have a passion for Dutch culture, art, and history – all of which I like to share with others. Over the past 20 years, I’ve been promoting Dutch art history in courses for adults, as a teacher at high schools, and as a local guide for all kinds of people and groups. Meeting the Himes family made me realize that we could offer a unique understanding and experience of local and authentic Dutch culture. In that way traveling becomes more: in my philosophy, it is a way to connect to yourself in relation to the ‘other’.

I studied Art History at the University of Utrecht and got a licence which allowed me to teach at High Schools. After my graduation, I started to work as a freelance art historian and gave courses to students and adults, which included city trips and visits to museums.  Quickly, I expanded my activities by working as a travel guide in Italy and working at a High School in Rotterdam. As a teacher, I’m also a member of a work group of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, with efforts to bring Duch art and history to life for the students. Five years ago, I took the step of moving to Kampen with my wife Nelleke and just-born son David. In Kampen, our daughter Annemaryn was born. Since then, I have committed myself to being a part of this beautiful community. I take part in two committees: The Advisory Committee of Art and Design of the muncipality Kampen and a committee which organizes an art route in the historic center of Kampen. As an art historian, I can offer the tourist a good, serious, and in-depth perspective on Dutch history and art. As a local, I know my way around  in collaboration with my network of local artists and entrepeneurs. As a person, people describe me as easy going, open minded, enthusiastic and having a no-nonsense mentality.
